Bulgaria holds a key position in the development of a new North-South infrastructure corridor in Europe and is emerging as an important hub for transport, energy and digital connectivity between the Baltic, Black and Mediterranean seas, former Polish President Andrzej Duda said at the Green Transition forum in Sofia, BGNES reported.

According to Duda, Bulgaria plays a strategic role in the Three Seas Initiative and in strengthening the European Union's competitiveness.

"Bulgaria is not on the periphery of this map. It is close to its centre. Its position on the Black Sea and at the crossroads of the Balkans, Turkey and the Middle East gives the country exceptional strategic and economic value that we are only beginning to realise," he said.

He added that the countries of Central and Eastern Europe are gradually becoming drivers of European growth and innovation. Poland, Bulgaria and Romania are already establishing themselves as regional centres for technological development and investment, he said.

Duda also criticised parts of the EU's regulatory policies, saying they often create difficulties for businesses and slow down strategic projects.
