Bulgaria’s defense spending will continue to increase in line with commitments made to NATO allies, Minister of Defense Dimitar Stoyanov said in the town of Haskovo (Southeastern Bulgaria).
In his words, the target of allocating 5% of GDP to defense should be achieved by 2035. 3.5% will be earmarked for direct military spending and the acquisition of military equipment, while the remaining 1.5% will go to cyber defense, military mobility, and defense-related infrastructure.
“Last year’s defense spending was around 2.13% of GDP. A commitment has been made to our NATO partners and allies for continued increases, so the figure will not be lower this year”. Minister Stoanov said, quoted by BTA.
