President Donald Trump has nominated former state
representative Douglas
"Doug" Holder to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Bulgaria,
Politico reports. His nomination was sent to the U.S. Senate on
Monday, which must approve it. The position
of U.S. ambassador to Bulgaria has been vacant since Kenneth Merten
resigned in January 2025.
Holder,
born in the state of Georgia in 1966, attended Middle Tennessee State
University, where he got a degree in political science. He
was a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 2006 to
2014,
