The
decision on Bulgaria's accession to the agreement on the Special
Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine must be preceded
by an analysis of the competent institutions. This was stated by the
Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova-Chamova in a response
to MP from "Democratic Bulgaria" Atanas Slavov, published
on the parliament's website and quoted by BTA.
According
to the Minister, the Ministry of Justice must assess the compliance
of the future participation with the national legislation, as well as
the possibilities for cooperation with the tribunal. Petrova also
points out that at the moment there is no clarity on the specific
financial commitments of the participating states, and clarifying the
parameters is key for the internal accession procedures.
On
May 22, Prime Minister Rumen Radev commented on the creation of the
special tribunal. According to him, such a tribunal has an effect
when a state is defeated, capitulated and its leader is captured, and
these conditions do not currently exist.
