Sofia University is among the leading ones among more than 21,000 universities

Sofia University (SU) "St. Kliment Ohridski" is among the top 5.2% of 21,291 universities in the world. This is according to the Global 2000 ranking for 2026, the university’s website reports. The ranking is by consulting organization Center for World University Rankings (CWUR).

In the methodology, CWUR uses 7 indicators in 4 areas: education - assesses alumni success; employability - based on professional success; faculty - measures the number of faculty members who have received academic honours; research - based on the total number of scientific articles and high-quality publications published in leading journals, the SU statement reads.
