On Thursday, minimum temperatures in Bulgaria will range between 14°C and 17°C. In Sofia, the expected minimum temperature is 14°C.
During the day, the air masses over the country will remain unstable. Rain clouds will develop, and many areas will experience brief but temporarily intense rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. Hail is also expected. The most intense conditions will occur in Western and Central Bulgaria.
Winds will shift to the west-northwest and remain light to moderate, while in Eastern Bulgaria they will continue to blow from the south.
Maximum temperatures will range from 22°C to 27°C, with around 22°C expected in the capital.
Black Sea Coast
Sunny weather will prevail before noon along the Black Sea coast. Visibility may be reduced in some areas during the morning hours. As the day progresses, rain clouds will develop, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms.
A light southeasterly wind will blow. Maximum temperatures will reach 22-24°C along the northern coast and 26-28°C in the south. Sea water temperatures are around 19°C, and wave heights will be 2-3 on the Beaufort scale.
Mountains
In the mountains of Western Bulgaria, rain clouds will begin developing before noon, spreading eastward later in the day. Many areas will see short-lived rain showers and thunderstorms, with hail also possible. The most intense weather is expected in the western mountain ranges and the Central Balkan region.
A moderate southwesterly wind will blow. Maximum temperatures will be around 17°C at 1,200 meters altitude and around 11°C at 2,000 meters.
Outlook for Friday
Friday morning will be mostly sunny across much of the country. However, from around midday until midnight, cumulonimbus clouds will develop. Rainfall is expected, though it will affect fewer areas and be less intense than on Thursday. Temperatures will be on the rise.
Across the Balkans
Rain clouds will develop over most of the Balkan Peninsula, bringing frequent short but intense showers and thunderstorms. In the northwestern parts of the peninsula, cloud cover will break up and decrease after the passage of an atmospheric front, leading to sunnier conditions.
Winds will strengthen from the northwest, bringing cooler air.
Temperatures are expected to reach 31°C in Athens and Istanbul, while Belgrade is forecast to see 24°C and Bucharest up to 26°C.
