The travelling exhibition “Gutenberg and the Slavic World”, dedicated to the Gutenberg Bible and the beginnings of Cyrillic printing in the Balkans, will open on June 7 at the Church of the Holy Cross in Bratislava, the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in the Slovak capital announced on its Facebook page.

The exhibition marks two anniversaries: 560 years since the publication of the Gutenberg Bible and 520 years since the first printed Cyrillic book in the Balkans.

In addition to the official opening of the exhibition, the programme includes a Divine Liturgy, a children’s workshop titled “Cyril and Methodius in Great Moravia”, a concert by The International Gospel Society with Big John Whitfield, and a guided tour of Devin Castle.

“We would be delighted to share this celebration of culture, literacy, and spiritual heritage with you,” the cultural institute in Bratislava stated.

The exhibition is curated by Prof. Vasya Velinova from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. The event is held under the patronage of Bulgarian Ambassador Snezana Yoveva-Dimitrova and is part of the annual celebrations dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius in Devin, BTA reported.
