Data on the weapons exported by Bulgaria to Ukraine have been published in the United Nations Register of Conventional Arms, including tanks, armored vehicles, and armored personnel carriers. The information was summarized in a report by the Ukrainian-language publication Defense Express, reports BNR reporter Dobromir Videv.
Bulgaria supplied Ukraine, through deliveries routed via the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom, with approximately 40 MT-LB tracked armored personnel carriers, 22 T-72 tanks, 2 HMMWV ("Humvee") armored vehicles, 18 Gvozdika self-propelled artillery systems, anti-tank guns, one BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicle, and 122 mm artillery systems.
Bulgaria also directly provided Ukraine with 3,000 disposable grenade launchers, 50 anti-aircraft systems, 100 machine guns, and an equal number of handheld grenade launchers.
The Ukrainian-language publication notes that Sofia has been assisting Ukraine since the first months of the war. During the first six months, Bulgaria reportedly supplied one-third of the ammunition and 40% of the fuel used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine in 2022, Bulgaria's arms exports related to Ukraine have amounted to $2.7 billion. Bulgaria has also repaired equipment for the Ukrainian army, according to Defense Express.
