Hundreds of children and teenagers from across Bulgaria will gather in the southeastern town of Bolyarovo on June 6 for the 26th edition of the national children's folklore festival "Varbova Svirka Sviri" ("The Willow Flute Plays"), one of the country's long-standing celebrations of traditional music, dance and customs. A dance ensemble from the Turkish municipality of Lalapaşa will join the event as a special guest, adding an international touch to the festival.

The events will start at 9:30 a.m. with performances by the youngest participants, including children from kindergartens, who will take the stage with folk songs, dances and recreations of Bulgarian traditions.

Throughout the day, young performers aged 9 to 19 will present songs from different folklore regions, instrumental pieces and colourful dance programmes, turning the small border town into a showcase of Bulgaria's living folk heritage. Highlights include appearances by leading children's ensembles, vocal groups and instrumentalists from community centres and schools across the country.
