Ten bilateral chambers of commerce and business organizations in Bulgaria have voiced opposition against the proposed amendments to the Protection of Competition Act and the Consumer Protection Act.
The business associations warn that the changes violate the principles of the market economy, pose risks to food security, and could lead to higher prices and lower investor confidence, according to BGNES.
In a joint statement sent to the Speaker of the National Assembly and all Members of Parliament, the organizations say they understand public expectations for tackling inflation, but argue that the proposed legislative measures focus solely on trade without addressing deeper structural problems in the food production and supply chain.
The position is supported by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria, the Belgium–Bulgaria–Luxembourg Business Club, the Bulgarian–Spanish Chamber of Commerce, the Bulgarian–Swiss Chamber of Commerce, the Bulgarian–Czech Chamber of Commerce, the German–Bulgarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Hellenic Business Council in Bulgaria, the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria, Confindustria Bulgaria, and the Dutch Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria.
