The lifting of tourist and business visa requirements for Bulgarian citizens traveling to the United States remains a long-term national priority. This became clear during a meeting between National Assembly Chair Mihaela Dotsova and H. Martin McDowell, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Sofia.
Mihaela Dotsova emphasized that Bulgaria completed the implementation of the Action Plan for inclusion in the U.S. Visa Waiver Program at the end of April 2026. According to her, the removal of visa requirements would represent an important step toward greater reciprocity in relations between the two countries.
The two sides also discussed cooperation in defense, energy diversification, trade, investment, science, and new technologies. Attention was also given to Bulgaria’s potential in innovation and artificial intelligence, as well as to expanding ties between the Bulgarian National Assembly and the U.S. Congress.
