25 years along the “unknown streets” of Mary Boys Band

For a quarter of a century now, Mary Boys Band has been leading us through unknown streets with their hit song of the same name, both in Bulgaria and abroad. Most recently, the band performed "Nepoznati Ulitsi" (Unknown Streets) on June 6 during their first concert in Vienna.

"We formed very warm, genuine and heartfelt connections with people we met for the first time. We didn't know anyone there, yet we parted as true friends. They had even put together a programme for us that could probably have filled the entire week if we had stayed", Maria Mutafchieva said in an interview for Radio Bulgaria.

Mary and her bandmates are already in Switzerland for their second concert in Zurich on June 13, which will feature an impressive multimedia show.

Upon returning to Bulgaria, the band will embark on a series of performances marking the 25th anniversary of the album ''Unknown Streets'' and its title track. In early July, they will give an exclusive guitar-and-vocals concert on the beach in Burgas—at the very spot where the song's iconic lyrics were written. This will be followed by a concert on St. Anastasia Island in August, the traditional ''Summer Fades, Autumn Arrives'' concert in September, and more. These performances bring Mary Boys Band together with audiences in which several generations join their voices to sing ''Unknown Streets''.

''Unknown Streets' is an important song for us, one that has been loved by many people across generations. In Vienna, we saw once again that people know it by heart—from beginning to end, every single word. The feeling of singing a song a cappella with a packed hall is impossible to describe. It's truly extraordinary, and I'm still feeling that emotion'', said Maria Mutafchieva.

When asked where these ''Unknown Streets'' have taken her over the past quarter of a century, Maria Mutafchieva— the author of both the music and lyrics—says:

“Life has unfolded in such a way that I’m never really sure whether I’m on the right path. But then another encounter comes, another concert—I start singing, people sing with me, and that feels like a sign that I am on the right path. I am someone who keeps moving forward—sometimes boldly, sometimes cautiously; someone who loves exploring the world. I’ve kept that curiosity about life. I love walking down unfamiliar streets and admiring the people I meet along the way. The world is truly wonderful. It’s so beautiful! And I am deeply grateful that these 'Unknown Streets' have led me to new friendships all over the world.”
