The state-owned companies Maritsa East Mines and Maritsa East 2 Thermal Power Plant will be separated from the Bulgarian Energy Holding (BEH) and transferred to a new state-owned enterprise, announced by Minister of Energy Iva Petrova, who has been tasked with developing the concept for the reform required under Bulgaria’s Recovery and Resilience Plan. The minister has also been tasked with coordinating the reform with the National Assembly, given parliamentary decisions prohibiting the restructuring of BEH, BNR’s Horizont channel reported.

“As agreed in 2025, the reform envisages separating Maritsa East Mines and Maritsa East 2 TPP from the structure of BEH. There has been a delay in this reform, and the failure to implement it in full has put at risk more than EUR 1 billion in funding under the Recovery and Resilience Plan, as well as funding under the territorial plans for a just transition”, Minister Petrova said, as quoted by BTA.
