A yellow weather warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for most of Bulgaria on Friday, with forecasters warning of thunderstorms, locally significant precipitation and hail.
Minimum temperatures will range between 13 and 18 degrees Celsius, falling to around 13°C in Sofia. During the day, unstable conditions will lead to the development of rain clouds, bringing showers and thunderstorms to many parts of the country. The heaviest rainfall is expected in central and eastern Bulgaria, as well as in mountainous areas. Moderate northerly winds are forecast, strengthening at times in the Danube Plain, the western Upper Thracian Plain and along the Struma valley. Daytime temperatures will reach between 20°C and 25°C, with highs of around 19°C in the capital.
Along the Black Sea coast, showers and thunderstorms are expected, with some rainfall likely to be temporarily intense. Temperatures will range from 23 to 26°C. Sea water temperatures are between 20 and 22°C, while sea conditions are expected to remain slight.
Mountain regions will also see widespread showers and thunderstorms, with the most significant rainfall forecast for the central Balkan range and the Rila-Rhodope area. Temperatures will reach around 14°C at 1,200 metres and about 6°C at 2,000 metres.
Heavy rainfall is expected to persist in parts of eastern Bulgaria early on Saturday before easing later in the day. Conditions are forecast to improve by evening, although temperatures will remain below seasonal norms, with highs generally between 20 and 25°C.
Sunday is expected to be largely sunny. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms may develop in eastern and mountainous areas, while temperatures are forecast to rise.
