Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev has announced the start of a nationwide crackdown on dangerous driving, following a police operation targeting illegal street racing and drifting near the southern city of Plovdiv.
The operation was launched after authorities received information that groups of motorcyclists and drivers of high-performance sports cars were gathering at a petrol station on Asenovgradsko Shose, reportedly using social media to organise the meetings.
Police checked 94 motorcycles and 11 cars during the operation and identified 107 people, the Interior Ministry said.
"This is only the beginning. The Interior Ministry will be completely uncompromising," Demerdzhiev said in a post on Facebook.
The minister said the campaign would target dangerous driving practices, including illegal racing and drifting, as part of broader efforts to improve road safety.
