Nearly 400 rowers from 22 countries will take part in the second round of the 2026 World Rowing Cup event in Plovdiv. The competition will be held from today through Sunday at the city's Rowing Canal, the organizing committee announced.
Bulgaria will be represented by two boats in the men's double sculls event. The crews are Valentin Andonov and Mario Neykov, and Hristo Neshev and Iliyan Stoilov.
“The athletes competing this year are young rowers. We hope that next year we will be able to form a crew capable of qualifying for the Olympic Games”, said Svilen Neykov, President of the Bulgarian Rowing Federation.
Nikolay Buhalov, Deputy Mayor for Sports and Youth Activities, said that hosting another competition of this caliber would strengthen Plovdiv's bid to become European Capital of Sport in 2028.
