Students from 125 countries study in Bulgaria, their number grows by 5% per year

17,889 are the foreign students who study in state and private higher education institutions in the country during the academic year. 7,034 are from 26 EU countries and 10,855 are from 99 countries outside the EU, or a total of 125 different countries, the Ministry of Education and Science has reported.

There are 894 more foreign student in comparison to the past year, or an increase of over 5%. Compared to the academic year 2017-2018, the increase is 24%, when there were 14,411 students. Foreigners study in a wide range of specialties in almost all professional fields. Among the most preferred are medical specialties.
