Bulgaria lost the legend of electronic music and one of the founders of the influential Metropolis DJ movement, DJ Steven, who passed away on June 10 after a short illness. His funeral will take place on June 13, Saturday, at 10 a.m. in the capital's "St. Sophia" church, BTA reported.
Stefan Krachanov (DJ Steven) was born in 1962. His professional career began in 1990. Under the influence of pioneers of hip-hop culture such as Grandmaster Flash, Kool Herc and Afrika Bambaataa, he worked as a DJ in clubs and bars throughout Bulgaria. In 1993, he reached the finals of the first Bulgarian DMC championship, where he won together with the formation Tall, Fat & Small. A year later, the group participated in the Ministry of Sound world finals in London, and DJ Steven was awarded the title of best DJ in Bulgaria. With the growing popularity of house and techno music, he turned to these musical styles. DJ Steven's development was influenced by the work of Kraftwerk and the music of Sven Väth.
In 1997, together with a group of like-minded
people and DJs, he founded the organization "Metropolis",
which established itself as an organizer and promoter of electronic
music in Bulgaria. As one of the main DJs of "Metropolis",
DJ Steven participated in dozens of events and tours alongside
world-famous names such as Carl Cox, John Digweed, Deep Dish and Jeff
Mills.
