A decline in illegal migration to the country was reported by the head of the Border Police, Chief Commissioner Anton Zlatanov, at a briefing in Burgas. He pointed out that 3 years ago, cases of detention of large groups of illegal migrants were registered several times a day in different places in the country, including around Sofia, Plovdiv and the borders with Serbia and Romania.
We are currently keeping the migration pressure at very low levels. We stop the huge number of illegal migrants and block them at the Bulgarian-Turkish border, Zlatanov said. He added that the border with Türkiye remains the busiest in Europe in terms of migrant flow. According to Zlatanov, over 1,000 people have been detained for illegally transporting foreigners through the country, BTA reports.
