Over 3,300 international students study at Sofia Medical University in 2025/26

A total of 3,315 international students from 71 countries were enrolled at Sofia Medical University at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year, according to figures cited by BTA. Of them, 2,026 are citizens of European Union member states.

Students from Europe, Asia, Africa, North America and South America are studying medicine, dentistry and pharmacy, with the first two programmes attracting the highest interest.

Student intake is aligned with the capacity set by Bulgaria's National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency, with enrolment numbers varying slightly from year to year. According to the university, the reputation of its degrees, early clinical training and opportunities for research are among the main factors behind international students' interest.
