More than 10,000 children in Bulgaria have received foster care over the past 25 years, the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy said, as the country marked a quarter-century since the introduction of the service.
This year's "Saviours of Childhood" awards, organised by the National Foster Care Association, were held as part of the celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of foster care in Bulgaria. Labour and Social Policy Minister Nataliya Efremova attended the ceremony as a special guest.
Efremova said foster care had given thousands of children "a chance" to believe in their dreams, walk with their heads held high and receive the support every child needs to grow into confident individuals.
