Bulgaria recorded the seventh-largest reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union between 2015 and 2025, according to preliminary data released by Eurostat.

The data showed that greenhouse gas emissions from economic activity and households across the EU fell by 17.2% from 2015 levels to 3.3 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2025.

Bulgaria's emissions declined by 21.9% over the same period, placing it seventh among EU member states.

The figures indicate that emissions fell while the EU economy expanded. The bloc's gross domestic product grew by 17.5% between 2015 and 2025.

The energy sector recorded the largest reduction in emissions, with pollution levels down 45.3% from 2015. By contrast, emissions from construction and transport increased slightly, the data showed.
