Bulgaria has signalled its opposition to part of the 21st package of sanctions against Russia, Politico reports, citing two diplomats. The package was proposed by the European Commission on June 9. It is expected to be adopted by the end of July, BNR correspondent in Brussels, Angelina Piskova, reports.
According
to EU Observer, the Commission has proposed including Russian
Patriarch Kirill in the sanctions list. The reason given is his
support for the war in Ukraine. In recent days, Bulgarian media
reported that Bulgaria will try to protect the Russian spiritual
leader.
Of
all the Bulgarian metropolitans, only Naum of Ruse has come out with
an official position, in which he joins Ecumenical Patriarch
Bartholomew, who condemned the attack on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra in
the Ukrainian capital.
