A strong harvest is expected this year, and I hope that the quality food Bulgaria can produce will become increasingly affordable, said Minister of Agriculture and Food Plamen Abrovsky, reported BTA. Minister Abrovsky attended the opening of the harvest campaign in the village of Drenov. He emphasized that the state is tightening controls across the entire food supply chain and will take a firm stance against unfair commercial practices.

Regarding milk imports, Plamen Abrovsky dismissed concerns that they could put pressure on Bulgarian production. According to him, imported volumes account for 7.5% of the milk processed in the country and are subject to strict controls.

Meanwhile, samples from the 13th shipment of Argentine sunflower seeds have shown pesticide levels above the permitted limits, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency announced. The vessel is carrying more than 34,000 tonnes of sunflower seeds, which will be processed on a contract basis and exported to non-EU countries.
