Bulgaria's Parliament voted unanimously to freeze lawmakers' salaries at their March 2026 levels by amending the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly.
Under the amendments, MPs will receive a basic monthly salary equal to three average monthly salaries of public sector employees. The MPs' basic monthly salary may be increased in line with the income policy in the public sector, as provided for in the State Budget Act for the respective year.

Petar Vitanov from "Progressive Bulgaria" — one of the lawmakers who proposed the amendments — said the move responds to strong public expectations, as lawmakers should lead by example during times of crisis. He added that the changes remove the automatic mechanism for recalculating MPs’ salaries every three months.
