Bulgaria records highest annual inflation in the Eurozone in May

Annual inflation in Bulgaria reached 6.3% in May 2026, according to data from Eurostat. This is the country’s highest inflation rate since September 2023 and places Bulgaria second among European Union member states.

The only country with higher inflation is Romania (9.7%), while Lithuania ranks third with 5.1%. However, Bulgaria had the euro area's highest annual inflation rate in May.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices in Bulgaria rose by 0.3% in May. In April, annual inflation in the country stood at 6%.

A few days ago, the National Statistical Institute announced that annual inflation measured by the consumer price Index had reached 6.9% in May, while no monthly increase in consumer prices was recorded.
