The Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with Ethnographic Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is hosting a two-day international conference on counter-urbanisation and changes in contemporary rural communities.
The event, which opens today with participants from 11 countries, will examine counter-urbanisation both as a historical process and as a modern form of mobility, encompassing migration from urban to rural areas, return migration, transformations of local environments and new ways of life in rural communities, the organisers said.
The conference will be accompanied by the photo exhibition "Moving to the Countryside" at the National Ethnographic Museum, focusing on domestic and international migration from cities to Bulgarian villages and on the cultural and social adaptation of newcomers.
