The summer solstice on June 21 marks the start of astronomical summer and heralds the approach of Enyovden, one of Bulgaria's best-known folk holidays, celebrated three days later.
In Bulgaria, the solstice occurs at 11:24 a.m. local time. The year's longest day will bring more than 15 hours of daylight to the Sofia area.
Observed on June 24, Enyovden is associated with numerous customs and beliefs. According to folklore, herbs gathered around that date possess their strongest healing properties, prompting many people to collect medicinal plants at sunrise.
Astronomical summer in 2026 will last until September 23, when the autumn equinox marks the beginning of the new season.
