The International Olympic Day (23 June) will be marked by a torch relay in Sofia on Tuesday. It will set off from the National Sports Academy "Vasil Levski" in Sofia.

The event is organised by the Bulgarian Olympic Committee and the National Sports Academy. The rector of the academy, Prof. Krasimir Petkov — who also serves as deputy chairman of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee — will launch the relay.

The torch will then be welcomed at the Vasil Levski National Stadium by Bulgarian Olympic Committee President Vessela Lecheva, alongside a procession of athletes, coaches, and sports officials.

The tradition of the torch relay dates back to 1996, when it was introduced to celebrate the centenary of the first modern Olympic Games. Olympic clubs from across the country participate in the relay, aiming to carry the flame to sites associated with sport.
