The Bulgarian folk holiday Enyovden (Midsummer Day), associated with the summer solstice and the feast of Saint John the Baptist, will be celebrated on June 24 at 10:00 in the yard of the Ethnographic Museum in Burgas (69 Slavyanska Street). Traditionally, a midsummer wreath of 77 and a half herbs will be made.
"Let everyone who wishes bring their own sprig of herbs for health, strength, love and luck!", the museum invites. Visitors will enjoy a program of folk dances, as well as a reenactment of elements of a folk custom, preserved to this day in Strandzha - a little girl, dressed as a bride will distribute to the maidens bunches of herbs that have been soaked overnight in water under the stars - a ritual gift for health and luck.
