Sunshine with afternoon showers expected in mountains, eastern areas on Thursday

On Thursday, minimum temperatures in Bulgaria will range between 10°C and 19°C, with around 15°C expected in Sofia. Reduced visibility is likely in valleys and river basins across western Bulgaria during the morning hours. Before noon, the weather will be mostly sunny. Around and after midday, clouds will develop. Brief showers and thunderstorms are expected in some areas, mainly over the mountains and in the eastern half of the country.
Maximum temperatures will range between 28°C and 33°C, reaching around 28°C in the capital.
Along the Black Sea coast, the northern sections will enjoy mostly sunny weather before noon, but significant cloud development is expected in the afternoon, bringing local showers and thunderstorms. Across most of the southern coast, conditions will remain predominantly sunny throughout the day. Winds will be light to moderate from the east, and from the north-northeast along the northern coastline. Maximum temperatures will range from 25°C to 28°C. Sea water temperatures will be between 23°C and 24°C, while sea conditions will remain calm with waves of 1 to 2 on the Beaufort scale.
In the mountains, more substantial cloud development is expected during the afternoon, when showers and thunderstorms will occur. Winds will be light to moderate from the east-northeast. Maximum temperatures will reach around 22°C at 1,200 metres and about 15°C at 2,000 metres above sea level.
Friday will remain mostly sunny. During the afternoon, rain clouds will develop and some areas of Western and Central Bulgaria will see brief showers accompanied by thunderstorms. Conditions for hail are also possible. Maximum temperatures will range between 29°C and 34°C.
Across the Balkans, sunny weather will generally prevail. During the afternoon, cumulus clouds will develop and some areas, particularly in the eastern parts of the peninsula and in Greece, will experience brief showers and thunderstorms.
Forecast high temperatures in the region are expected to reach 32°C in Athens, 34°C in Belgrade, 33°C in Bucharest and 30°C in Istanbul.
