The Democratic Bulgaria coalition wants the draft budget for 2026 presented on Wednesday to be withdrawn. The proposed budget does not differ significantly from the financial framework that citizens protested against. There are no measures in sight to stop the draining of public funds and to close the “taps” through which funds continue to be directed to related companies, MP Ivaylo Mirchev said in parliament.

MP Martin Dimitrov warned that the budget violates the basic fiscal rules for limiting the redistribution of funds through the state to below 40% of GDP and creates a risk for public finances. According to him, the country could head towards a “Romanian scenario” if the deficit is not brought under control in 2026.
