No official information has been received so far about any Bulgarian citizens being injured or killed in the earthquakes that struck Venezuela on 24 June, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BTA.
A state of emergency has been declared in the country, and international airports have been temporarily closed. Telecommunications, railway transport and metro services have also been disrupted.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that further updates are expected from the Bulgarian Embassy in Brazil, which is also responsible for relations with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
Venezuela’s interim president Delcy Rodríguez announced that at least 32 people had so far been confirmed dead following two powerful overnight earthquakes, measuring magnitude 7.5 and 7.2, in the area around the capital Caracas. At least 700 people have been injured.
