The international community must mobilize efforts and resources to end the war in Ukraine, paving the way for the country’s long-term recovery, Prime Minister Rumen Radev said in his address to Ukraine Recovery Conference held in Gdańsk, Poland. Premier Radev noted that the war has been ongoing for more than four years and on 11 June exceeded the duration of World War 1. “This war of attrition, destruction and devastation must end”, Rumen Radev said. In his words, the cessation of hostilities and the pursuit of a sustainable peace solution based on the UN Charter and the principles of international law through diplomatic means should be a common goal.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister highlighted three strategic areas of Ukraine's recovery in which support can also be provided through regional cooperation initiatives: energy diversification, connectivity in the Black Sea region, and security cooperation. The Prime Minister also noted that Bulgaria is the EU member state with the largest national minority in Ukraine — the Bulgarian diaspora there numbers more than 250,000 people — and stressed that, for this reason as well, the country has a strong interest in achieving peace and ensuring the best possible conditions for Ukraine’s recovery. He said that the country is ready to work actively and remains firmly committed to this process, BGNES reported.
