Following the destructive earthquakes that struck northern Venezuela on June 24, 2026, a state of emergency has been declared across the affected areas, Bulgaria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

Caracas' Simón Bolívar International Airport has temporarily suspended operations due to damage. The Caracas metro is out of service, while power, water supply and communications have been disrupted in some areas. Local authorities are warning of the risk of further aftershocks.

The Foreign Ministry advises Bulgarian citizens currently in Venezuela to closely follow and strictly comply with the instructions of the local authorities, and to stay informed about the evolving situation.

The ministry also reiterated that Venezuela remains under Level 4 travel advisory, meaning: "Avoid all travel to the entire country except in cases of extreme necessity."

Bulgarian citizens requiring consular or emergency assistance may contact the Embassy of Bulgaria in Brazil at +55 61 3223 6193, or the after-hours emergency number +55 61 98602 3360, or by email at Embassy.Brasilia@mfa.bg.

The Bulgarian Embassy in Brazil and Bulgaria's Honorary Consul in Venezuela have established contact with all Bulgarian citizens known to be residing in Venezuela. They number fewer than 10 people, and none has been injured in the two powerful earthquakes, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
