On June 27 and 28, Sofia is once again hosting one of the most iconic sporting events in Bulgaria – the 100-kilometer Tour of Vitosha, better known as "Vitosha 100", sportal.bg reports. Traditionally, the start and finish are at the parking lot near the Boyana residence. The race brings together over 3,000 running, cycling and duathlon enthusiasts from over 20 countries, including Japan, South Korea, UK, Italy, Germany and the Balkans.
The
race for cyclists started on Saturday at 06:00, and
the runners and duathlon participants will take to the course at
23:59. The official awards ceremony will be held on Saturday
(cyclists) and Sunday (runners and duathletes) at 4:00 p.m. in the
start/finish area.
A
number of records were broken last year. In the running race, Hristo
Tsvetkov clocked 6:56:40 and became the first participant to break
the 7-hour mark for Vitosha 100. In cycling, Emil Stoynev set a men's
record with a time of 3:46:56, and Ioana Valkanova improved the
women's record with a time of 5:03:52.
