Yellow warning issued for dangerous heat across Bulgaria on Tuesday

On Tuesday, minimum temperatures in Bulgaria will range between 17°C and 24°C, with 17°C expected in Sofia.

The day will be mostly sunny and hot. During the afternoon, cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds will develop over Western and Central Northern Bulgaria, bringing brief showers and thunderstorms in some places. Winds will be light to moderate from the east-northeast.

Maximum temperatures will range between 34°C and 39°C, reaching around 34°C in Sofia.

Black Sea coast

The coast will remain sunny, with light to moderate east-northeasterly winds.

Daytime highs will range from 28°C to 31°C. Sea water temperatures will be between 25°C and 26°C, with sea conditions remaining slight at 1 to 2 on the Beaufort scale.

Mountains

Mountain areas will also enjoy mostly sunny weather. Around and after noon, cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds will develop, bringing isolated showers and thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong east-northeasterly winds are expected. Temperatures will reach around 28°C at 1,200 metres and 19°C at 2,000 metres.

Outlook for Wednesday and Thursday

The air mass over the country will become unstable. Cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds will develop, bringing brief showers and thunderstorms, with conditions also favourable for hail.

On Wednesday, precipitation will be more widespread across Northern Bulgaria and the mountains, while on Thursday showers are expected across the entire country.

Winds will shift to a light to moderate northwesterly direction, and daytime temperatures will ease, with maximums between 28°C and 33°C on Thursday.

Across the Balkans

Hot weather will persist across the Balkans. The morning will be mostly sunny, but during the afternoon the atmosphere over the western and central parts of the peninsula will become unstable, bringing brief showers and thunderstorms.
