A team from the Bulgarian Navy's naval base in Varna has successfully recovered and destroyed an unmanned aerial vehicle discovered in the Black Sea, the Navy Headquarters announced. The drone was located about 2.85 kilometres east of the Albena resort, within Bulgaria's 12-nautical-mile territorial waters.
A specialised unit for the reconnaissance, transportation and disposal of unexploded ordnance neutralised the drone after all necessary safety measures had been taken. The operation was carried out on the orders of Bulgarian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Kiril Mihaylov, following approval by the Chief of Defence.
On 26 June, the Bulgarian Navy also destroyed another drifting drone that had been found seven nautical miles east of Kranevo, BTA recalls.
