German company Bosch will shut down its Engineering Center in Sofia by mid-2027, affecting around 670 employees. Approximately 400 positions will be eliminated already in 2026, the company announced.
The decision is part of Bosch's global consolidation of its engineering operations, driven by ongoing structural changes in the automotive industry. The company says the sector is facing unprecedented challenges, including declining vehicle production, changing customer requirements, the fundamental transformation of technologies and market conditions, and a shift in demand toward markets outside Europe.
Additional factors include the lack of a sufficiently clear regulatory framework for technologies such as hydrogen, the slower-than-expected adoption of electric mobility and automated driving, as well as high costs and increasing competitive pressure.
According to Bosch, these conditions require adjustments to its global footprint so that its engineering capacity better reflects current and anticipated market needs, BTA reported.
According to Bosch, by the end of 2025 the company employed more than 1,000 people in Bulgaria, including employees of its non-consolidated companies, and generated revenue of EUR 196 million on the Bulgarian market.
