A yellow weather warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for most of Bulgaria, with the exception of the Black Sea coast.

Minimum temperatures will range between 17°C and 21°C, with 17°C expected in Sofia.

The morning will be mostly sunny, although some low cloud is expected briefly over parts of the lowlands. Around and after midday, cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds will develop, bringing short but intense showers and thunderstorms to many areas. Rainfall is expected to be locally heavy, with significant accumulations, and hailstorms are also possible.

A light to moderate northwesterly wind will bring in cooler air. Daytime temperatures will continue to fall, reaching 28°C to 33°C, with around 28°C in Sofia.

Black Sea Coast

The coast will remain mostly sunny, although cumulus clouds will develop during the afternoon, bringing isolated showers and thunderstorms.

A light to moderate southeasterly wind will blow. Maximum temperatures will range between 28°C and 30°C.

Sea water temperatures will be 26°C to 27°C, with sea conditions remaining slight to moderate, 2 to 3 on the Beaufort scale.

Mountains

Mountain areas will see the development of cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds around and after noon, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms. Some storms may produce heavy rainfall and hail.

A light to moderate west-northwesterly wind will blow. Maximum temperatures will reach around 22°C at 1,200 metres and 14°C at 2,000 metres.

Outlook for Friday and Saturday

Unstable weather will continue through Friday and Saturday, with the development of convective cloud cover and scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Rainfall will be more widespread on Friday, while on Saturday it will mainly affect Central and Eastern Bulgaria. Some storms are expected to bring heavy rain, thunderstorms and hail.

Northwesterly winds will persist, bringing another drop in temperatures. Maximum temperatures on Saturday will range between 25°C and 30°C.

Across the Balkans

Much of the Balkan Peninsula will experience unstable weather, with showers and thunderstorms developing during the day. The western Balkans are expected to see the heaviest rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail.
