Plovdiv has officially entered the race to become the European Capital of Sport 2028, Mayor Kostadin Dimitrov announced.
The city's application has been prepared by the Municipality of Plovdiv in partnership with the BG Be Active Association and addresses all 12 evaluation criteria set by ACES Europe, including sports infrastructure, sports clubs, public health, accessibility and sports tourism.
"For us, this bid is not simply a competition for a title. It is an opportunity to make Plovdiv an even healthier, more active and more attractive city," Mayor Dimitrov said.

He noted that the municipality is steadily investing in the modernization of major sports facilities, creating new neighbourhood sports spaces and attracting an increasing number of international sporting events.
An international evaluation commission from ACES Europe is scheduled to visit Plovdiv in October to inspect the city's sports infrastructure. The final decision on the European Capital of Sport 2028 title is expected in November.
