Bulgaria, Romania, and Türkiye are expanding the mission of the Black Sea Mine Countermeasures Task Group (MCM Black Sea), with a new task to protect critical underwater infrastructure. The government approved changes to the memorandum of understanding between the three countries for MCM Black Sea, which provide for surveillance and reconnaissance in the area of operations, with the main objective of preventing deliberate attacks against critical infrastructure, whose disruption could affect the national security and economic interests of the three countries.
The mine countermeasures group was established at the beginning of 2024 to ensure the safety of navigation and counter the mine threat in the Black Sea. Its activities contribute to strengthening regional security and NATO’s Eastern Flank.
