A stronger Bulgaria contributes to stronger Europe and stronger Europe contributes to stronger NATO, said the Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Gen. Alexus Grynkewich, after a meeting with the Chief of Defence, Adm. Emil Eftimov.

Gen. Alexus Grynkewich pointed out that NATO's collective security is not free and Bulgaria knows this very well, fulfilling the commitments made in The Hague last year. According to him, the country has already exceeded the requirement of 2% of the Gross Domestic Product for defence spending and is on track to reach 5% of GDP by 2035.

Adm. Emil Eftimov said that the presence of Gen. Grynkewich is a sign of the importance that the Alliance attaches to the security of the Black Sea region and to Bulgaria’s role as a reliable ally on NATO’s flank.
