The resort village of Ribaritsa, located in Teteven Municipality, is hosting the 14th edition of Trabant Fest, featuring nearly 100 cars. Trabant enthusiasts are gathering at 9.00 am today at the Kostina locality, BTA reported.
Participants have come from across Bulgaria, while this year the festival is welcoming international participants for the first time, from Serbia. A concours for authenticity will begin at 10:15 a.m., followed by a driving skills competition. The winners will be announced two hours later.
Each year, the festival showcases specially modified Trabants, including police cars, fire engines and ambulances. This year's surprise, however, is being kept under wraps by organiser Valcho Stamenovski. He has only hinted that visitors will have the chance to see a 1963 Trabant 600.
"There are many modified Trabants with more powerful engines. I used to give an award for the most rusted Trabant, but that's no longer possible. A great deal of money is now being invested in these cars, and many young people have become passionate about restoring Trabants", Stamenovski said.
