The Ministry of Transport and Communications, port operators and representatives of water transport agreed within two weeks to prepare a package of measures to increase the competitiveness of Bulgarian sea and river ports. The proposals will be included in a strategy for the development of water transport and legislative changes.

Among the topics discussed were measures for better positioning of the ports of Varna and Burgas and the problem of increased fees for passage through the Bosphorus, which, according to the industry, reduce the competitiveness of Bulgarian ports. Minister Georgi Peev assured the industry that the issue of fees for the Bosphorus will be raised in the upcoming negotiations with
Türkiye.

When it comes to navigation on the Danube River, it was noted that there have been no systematic problems with navigation in the Bulgarian section for the past four years.
