Despite the arrival of locally grown summer produce on the market, the prices of tomatoes and cucumbers in Bulgaria have increased, according to the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Markets.
Although vegetable prices on wholesale markets generally declined in early July, tomatoes rose by 17.73% over the past week to EUR 1.66 per kilogram, while cucumbers increased by 7.34% to EUR 1.14 per kilogram.
Higher prices were also recorded for apples, fresh and yoghurt milk, white brined cheese, chicken, flour, and sunflower oil. Apples rose by 10.36% to EUR 1.30 per kilogram, while cherries increased by 6.06% to EUR 2.24 per kilogram.
At the same time, prices fell for green and red peppers, potatoes, zucchini, cabbage, carrots, mature onions, as well as eggs, lentils, dry beans, and sugar.
The Wholesale Market Price Index, which tracks wholesale food price movements, edged down by 0.04% to 2.382 points, compared with 2.383 points a week earlier.
