The newly established National Youth Philharmonic Orchestra will give its first concert this evening at the European Music Festival in Sofia. Around 70 talented students from music schools across the country will take the stage at the Central Military Club.

The idea for creating the orchestra belongs to Stolina Dobreva, director of the National Music School “Lyubomir Pipkov” in Sofia. Her aim is to bring together young musicians from different cities into an active and sustainable creative community.

The concert programme includes works by prominent Bulgarian composers such as Lyubomir Pipkov, Pancho Vladigerov, Dobri Hristov and Veselin Stoyanov. Under the baton of Slavil Dimitrov, the young musicians will also perform Petko Stainov’s emblematic “Thracian Dances”, as well as the hymn “Varvi, narodе vazrodeni!” (March ahead, o revived people) by Panayot Pipkov.
