Bulgaria’s Rositsa Dencheva has reached the singles quarterfinals of the clay-court Billie Jean King Cup tournament in the Romanian city of Buzău, which carries a prize fund of USD 35,000.
The 19-year-old from Pleven produced an impressive performance to defeat Romania’s Diana-Ioana Simionescu 7:5, 6:1. The match lasted one hour and 37 minutes, with the Bulgarian displaying remarkable composure in the decisive moments.
Dencheva trailed 2:4 in the opening set but staged a superb comeback, breaking her opponent in the 11th game before closing out the set. She dominated the second set from start to finish, conceding just one game to seal a convincing victory.
For a place in the semifinals, Dencheva will face the winner of the match between Ekaterina Kazionova of Russia and Federica Sacco of Italy.
