Budget savings move civil servants’ meetings online

State employees will no longer hold Christmas and New Year celebrations, company banquets, sporting events and other non-official gatherings using budget funds. The measure is included in the 2026 state budget. Spending on festive, recreational and sporting activities for employees that are not directly related to their official duties will be discontinued.

The provision also introduces a ban on holding work meetings, briefings, consultations, seminars and training sessions outside administrative buildings.

The practice of employees gathering for work events in hotels, resorts or external conference venues will be discontinued. Exceptions will apply only to international events arising from bilateral or multilateral commitments, as well as events connected with international organisations. All other internal and interdepartmental meetings will have to be held online in a digital environment, 24chasa.bg reported.
