Plans to build the Rakovski Wind Farm near the northeastern Bulgarian city of Razgrad have met with strong opposition from the local municipality and residents, the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) reports.
At a public consultation, Mayor Dobrin Dobrev presented the municipality's official position, calling for the environmental impact assessment procedure to be postponed or terminated. According to the local authorities, the proposed investment is incompatible with the municipality's current Master Development Plan, which does not permit the construction of such facilities on the designated sites.
Residents of the villages of Rakovski and Getsovo have also lodged formal objections to the project. In Rakovski alone, a petition against the wind farm has been signed by 501 people.
Among the main concerns raised by local residents are the noise generated by the wind turbines and its potential impact on human health.
